About Us

Planetary Wind is a wind park development company that specializes in community wind parks ranging in size from 1 to 30 turbines. The need to catch the wind on a smaller scale is growing as wind power continues to be one of the world’s most affordable renewable energy source.

Planetary Wind has a revolutionary approach to harnessing today’s cleanest and fastest-growing energy source. While we have proven success in large wind park development, we ultimately are striving to further the use of renewable energy throughout North America through small-scale, environmentally sound wind farms.

Sustainable Energy and Community Development
Our pledge is to help reduce the impact of climate change on this planet by developing and maintaining sustainable energy. A secondary value to our approach is to strengthen rural communities.

Renewable energy, specifically wind park development, can be a mechanism for bringing about change in areas of the country that need revenue, need jobs, and need hope. It can be a means to revitalize rural communities. Our core management team knows what that means. Planetary Wind founders Bud and Sabina Leigh have lived and thrived in a rural community for over 50 years. Many of today’s small towns face insurmountable crises of economic erosion and declining population due to loss of jobs. We feel that small wind park development could be a way to uplift communities socially and economically.

Bud and Sabina Leigh have worked in the utility grade wind park development arena since November of 2004. During that time, we were instrumental in the development of wind parks of up to 300+MW. Many of these larger projects are still developing and this has led to our interest into smaller, more rapidly developing sites. Our prospecting experience throughout the U.S. and parts of Canada provide data for many areas that would be ideal for wind parks.

Comprehensive Approach
We can connect you with the necessary players to develop your community wind park, manage the entire process from start to finish, or a combination of those. Complete project development includes communication with local residents, landowners, construction companies, engineers, and our wind turbine insurance partner. We will develop a custom roadmap for your project, including:

• A comprehensive checklist and timeline;
• Cost estimates for the project;
• Your projected return on investment; and
• Positives and negatives of the project.

Planetary Wind Services

• Engineering and Construction Services—We can provide engineering services for your project as well as construction from beginning to end.
• Financial Services— Our financial department models the projects so that the owner will know the costs and the profitability from the project before proceeding to construction. Additional financial services are available to aid in financing the project or providing tax equity opportunities.
• Insurance Services— Planetary Wind offers wind turbine insurance, as well as other insurance needs through Schillinger & Schillinger, Inc. They have been in the insurance service business for more than 30 years serving specialty interests throughout North America such as wind farms and railroads, and are underwritten by well known, worldwide companies.
